About
Brett Yerger, the founder of Yerger Studios, has been a creator from his earliest memories, exploring a wide range of artistic mediums. Whether it's molding raw clay from the earth, breathing new life into forgotten objects or tapping into the force of electricity, he is inherently drawn to the transformative power of clay, illumination and wood. Brett possess the intriguing duality of ambidexterity, a metaphorical reflection of his blend of creativity and mechanical abilities shown in his artwork. His pieces are often functional with a rich sense of craftsmanship and history, while at other times they are more whimsical, weaving humor, fairy tales, and idiosyncrasies into his creations. His handcrafted items transcend the ordinary, igniting a sense of wonder. These pieces are made with one simple intent – to inspire and delight those who value the well made, unique and unusual.
Materials & Inspiration
Brett’s motivation to create comes from the love of the process, influences from the past and connection to a family history of craftsmanship. Born and raised in Leesport, PA, Brett finds himself inspired by the local culture and materials that surround him. Much of his pottery consists of redware crafted from the region's native red clay, a material commonly used in Pennsylvania Dutch pottery. Lighting and custom projects often feature reclaimed wood, antiques, or found objects, reflecting Brett’s fascination with the old and discarded. His unique art collections draw inspiration from a diverse range of artists from surrealist M.C. Esher to local potter, Lester Breininger. Regardless of the medium or inspiration, Brett firmly believes in the value of quality craftsmanship, and that the process is just as important as the end result.
“1792 out of the earth with understanding the potter makes everything. He who can make something is esteemed. The unskilled no one regards.”
– George Hubener
